Types of Ceremonies

Funeral

A funeral is a chance for you, family and friends to say your farewell, to have that last chat and speak your final words. But it is also a time for joy, celebration and remembrance. A time for you to give thanks for your loved one’s presence in your life and the value they brought to your life.

We will spend time together and work together to understand and celebrate the life of your loved one. Together, we will make sure they get the send-off that you are happy with and, importantly, what both of you would have wanted. The words spoken will be unique to your loved one, retelling their life story and recounting memories. The music played…the poems read… may hold a significant memory for you both.

It’s ok to laugh, to cry, to be angry and lost, but together we will create a ceremony that is fitting for your loved one and most importantly, you won’t feel you’re planning this alone.

Memorials

So many loved ones are opting for a direct cremation, which can be difficult for the ones they leave behind.

Planning a memorial service can feel like an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t need to be.

I can help you honour and remember your loved one, in a more casual environment, at you choose the location and a time suitable to you.

We all grieve in different ways and we all want to be thought of in different ways, so the beauty of a memorial service is that there is no uniformity and no set way of doing it.

Whether it’s a one-off or yearly memorial, each ceremony will be personalised and unique to your loved one. Personal items can be included, such as favourite books, pictures, sports memorabilia, or musical instruments, which add sentimental value. You may also wish to add a themed element, such as ribbons, candles, favourite colours, or flowers.

It can be more of a reflective or sorrowful occasion, or a happy, upbeat celebration of life if that’s what you and your family would prefer.

Living Funerals / Wake

Living funerals, or living wakes as they are sometimes known is a relatively new concept here in the UK, but worldwide, different versions have existed for many years.

What is a living funeral? It’s an occasion a person has while they’re alive, usually to reflect on and celebrate their life with people they hold dear and are important to them.

Living funerals can be any format the person chooses, for example, an activity, event, or a specific ceremony. They can be a big occasion or a small gathering.

They are often chosen by someone living with a terminal illness or nearing the end of their life.

However, anyone can have a living funeral, as there are no set rules for what you can do, or where to have it.

You may also choose to write your own eulogy. This could be because you wish to relive some great memories, ensure the accuracy of your life and leave a lasting impression on those you leave behind. Working together, I can help you put your memories on paper.
